Laurent Corbeil received his Ph.D. in history from McGill University in 2015. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC). He taught sixteen courses to over 800 students in diverse universities in Canada and in the United States. His research on the history of indigenous peoples in Latin America led to the publication of six academic articles and one book, The Motions Beneath: Indigenous Migrants on the Urban Frontier of New Spain, for which he received the 2019 Best Book Prize from the Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS). Laurent was involved in the Projet accompagnement Québec-Guatemala (PAQG) as of 2004. He was an accompanier in Guatemala, general coordinator of the organisation, and a member of its administration board. He was also a member of CALACS’ board of directors.

Since 2018, Laurent has been working in the field of international and intergovernmental relations. First a researcher and an advisor to student mobility for the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), he is now working as program officer for the FRQSC.
